Oliver, the 'Explorer Octopus', symbolizes an engineer's creativity akin to an aviator's love for aeroplanes. Like planes offer freedom in three dimensions to adventurous pilots, 3D printers grant creative engineers like us the same liberty to let our imagination run wild. Every layer we add to Oliver brings art and engineering closer, culminating in a unique, exploratory octopus. Oliver's motion mechanism is designed with two distinct options: Mechanism A requires sliding a knob, while Mechanism B demands rotation. Hidden within its head, the gear system comes alive when you adjust the knob, making Oliver's arms work together in a jet propulsion-like movement - just like real octopuses! To ensure smooth operation, I've added a backlash of 0.3mm to 0.4mm in all gears and fine-tuned the central distance and addendum for a 0.4mm clearance between gear teeth.
