Olive Jar Rim 93-1475, Santa Clara Wreck
sketchfab
Spanish colonial era ships commonly transported amphora-like earthenware jugs called "olive jars" (botijas in Spanish) to hold wine, oil, and vinegar. These egg-shaped containers measured approximately 50 centimeters tall by 30-40 cm in diameter. The St. Johns Wreck is believed to be the remains of the 1564 galleon Santa Clara, which carried at least 130 olive jars. The majority of these jars shattered upon the ship's wreck, but we can still determine their number by counting the surviving rims. This particular olive jar rim has an outside diameter of 9.4 cm and stands 4.0 cm tall above its shoulder.
