A non-aligned coupling joins parallel shafts with slightly apart axes; it consists of two flanges mounted on shaft ends via sunk keys. The flanges contain rectangular slots at right angles to each other. A circular disc is placed between them, its projections fitting into the flange slots. As the shafts rotate, the central disc slides within these slots.
