Oldham coupling

An Oldham coupling connects two shafts by means of a power transmission device, consisting of three discs. One disc is coupled to the input, another to the output, and a middle disc with tongue and groove connections to both. This arrangement allows the middle disc to rotate at the same speed as the input and output shafts while tracing a circular orbit around their midpoint, reducing backlash with springs if needed. One advantage of Oldham couplings over universal joints is their compact size.
