An Oldham coupler efficiently transfers torque between parallel yet non-aligned shafts via a three-disc system. One disc links with the input, another with the output, and a central disc connects to both initial ones through tongue-and-groove mechanisms. The grooves on one side are perpendicular to those on the other, reducing backlash typically using springs. This compact coupler is more space-efficient than two universal joints.
