This rare human effigy is from Pecan Point and was gifted to Dr. Hampson. It's a 4.5-inch-tall Mississippian Plain vessel that stands out with upraised hands and pierced ears. The Hampson Museum Collection boasts one of the world's most impressive collections of American Indian art, as well as an invaluable source of data on late pre-Columbian peoples in the Mississippi River Valley. The museum's extensive collections were gathered through thorough excavations at the Nodena Site and other regional sites by Dr. James K. Hampson, along with contributions from the University of Alabama and the University of Arkansas. The Virtual Hampson Museum was launched by CAST in 2010. It's a groundbreaking digital platform that offers high-resolution data, making it the first of its kind to do so. The museum received recognition in a UA Research Frontiers article in April 2010, and in 2011, it began receiving substantial scholarly attention.
