In her work, Anna Golubkina was driven by a profound commitment to selfless dedication to art , believing that one must surrender everything and start anew. Having arrived in Moscow from Zaraysk at the age of 25, she enrolled in fine arts classes under the guidance of renowned artist-architect AO Gunst, further honing her skills at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture before embarking on a rigorous education at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg. However, Golubkina soon discovered that the conventional methods employed by academic schools did not align with her own artistic aspirations. Her desire to become a prominent figure in Europe's vibrant art scene prompted several journeys to Paris, where she had the privilege of meeting Auguste Rodin and visiting his studio during the years 1896-1897. Through her interactions with this celebrated sculptor and his insightful counsel, Golubkina was empowered to forge her own unique path in the world of art : "You ... gifted among artists ... have given me the freedom to create as I see fit." The convergence of their creative visions was later showcased at the Tretyakov Gallery's exhibition "Meeting a Century: Rodin . Golubkina. Claudel" in 2004, marking a significant milestone in the history of art.
