[OLD VERSION] Folk flute, alto, straight bore
thingiverse
This flute, sized alto, features a folk fingering system similar to a penny-whistle and is comprised of three sliding sections. The design was created using Python's "demakein" package for accurate tuning across two octaves. It was expertly printed in ABS plastic by John Boshua. Listen to the flute's sound at http://soundcloud.com/paul-francis-harrison/adew-dundee-3d-printed-flute. For assembly, ensure joint clearance is 0.3mm and that a tight seal is formed; leaks can be identified by covering holes and blowing into the instrument in stages. Fingering instructions are provided in "folk-flute-fingering.pdf". Modify the design through "demakein" for different keys, bores, or joint clearances, or use it to produce shapes for CNC-milling in wood. Python programming skills can extend demakein's capabilities further, and more designs will be added in the future.
