The year 1898 saw the existence of an old tram from Siemens & Halske, a company that had already made significant contributions to transportation technology. In 1881, they built the world's first electric streetcar line in Berlin's Lichterfelde suburb and later introduced the first electrical interurban tram in Austria-Hungary near Vienna. Their innovations continued with the opening of an early trolleybus concept, the Elektromote track, in Halensee, Berlin in 1882. Siemens & Halske's growth was fueled by the increasing popularity of telegraphs, electrical tramways, generators, and electric motors.
