Old Sacramento Rail yards
sketchfab
The first railroad to span Sacramento and California was the Sacramento Valley Railroad, which was finished in 1856 by Theodore Judah's skilled engineering. Judah had worked tirelessly to bring a transcontinental railroad to life, but he eventually handed over his vision to "The Big Four," a group of powerful investors who formed the Central Pacific Railroad. In 1869, the First Transcontinental Railroad was finally completed when Central Pacific's line connected with Union Pacific's at Promontory Summit. For nearly two decades, Sacramento's terminus served as the primary departure point for the railroad before being replaced by another station in 1883.
