National Stadium was a multi-purpose venue in Kasumigaoka, Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. The stadium hosted the main event for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as serving as the track and field events site at the 1964 Summer Olympics. Japan's national football team held home matches and major football club cup finals at the stadium. The official capacity was 57,363, but only 48,000 seats were actually available. Demolition of the stadium was completed in May 2015, and the area will be redeveloped into a new Olympic Stadium with increased seating capacity.
