Characterized as Classic Renaissance architecture, this structure spans 32,000 square feet (3,000 m2) across six floors, with a presence at the intersection of James and King William Street. Initially designed with only four floors in 1886, The Lister Block is celebrated for its status as Canada's first indoor commercial mall, currently held by LIUNA - Laborers' International Union of North America. Its name pays tribute to Joseph Lister, a local merchant and clothier who was also involved in municipal administration through his roles as Board of Water Commissioners member and school trustee. With a vision to provide modestly priced accommodation for small merchants in a modern and central location, the building has now entered an era of renovation, with ongoing work being completed on The Lister Block Building.
