Okina is a synonym for Okina itself, derived from its white paint job (haku). Another variation, Kokushiki-jō, stands out with black paint (koku). A hinged lower jaw separated from the face marks this type as distinctive. Born before Noh in sarugaku or dengaku forms, Hakushiki-jō was used in prayers and celebrations. Its soft deity smile symbolizes a peaceful country, world at peace, bountiful harvests, long lives, and prosperity for both current and future generations.
