Oh Beautiful World!
sketchfab
Material: burr horse chestnut. Oh Beautiful World, a poignant tribute to Oscar Wilde's confinement in Reading Gaol from 1895 to 1897, is the crowning jewel of a special commission by Eleanor Lakelin for Reading Museum in 2020. Funded by the Contemporary Art Society's Rapid Response Fund and brought to life in partnership with Frieze London, this powerful piece finds new purpose in the very timbre of the horse chestnut trees that once stood guard around the Gaol. Tragically, these majestic trees had to be felled due to decay, but their memory lives on through this breathtaking work. Learn more about Oh Beautiful World! at Reading Museum's online exhibition.
