Ogee 4.25 inch base Molding with quarter round
thingiverse
I needed a small, 4.25 inch high base molding in the bathroom that gets extremely wet and deteriorates quickly. It's 40mm wide with some quarter round added at its base. I decided to build a custom part specifically designed to replace this small piece in the bathroom corner near a shower door. Painting it to match other base moldings was crucial, so I aimed for a close shape and size. The goal is for the new molding to blend seamlessly into the existing decor, with only one noticeable difference: it won't rot anymore. To make the custom part, I had to code very precisely, which resulted in few variables. For now, the design isn't customizable beyond sizing adjustments made through your slicer software. Printing the custom piece took approximately 2.5 hours on my machine, and since red ABS was loaded into the printer at that time, I used it for this project. Once printed, the part will receive a white KILZ or similar base coat followed by paint to match the existing baseboard in the bathroom. A 10% infill seemed more than sufficient for a decorative piece like this. The ogee shape was achieved through manual adjustments rather than an algorithm. While I'd love to code something that can create variable ogee shapes, that's a task for another time. Ultimately, this project was undertaken to fix a specific issue at home – not to launch a 3D molding print business.
