Offshore oil and gas platforms rely heavily on specialized ships called platform supply vessels (PSVs), designed specifically for logistics support and transportation. These vessels, measuring between 50 and 100 metres in length, carry out a wide range of tasks. Their primary function is to transport goods, tools, equipment, and personnel to and from offshore oil platforms and other structures. A newer generation of PSVs has entered the market, equipped with advanced dynamic positioning systems rated Class 1 or Class 2. These vessels are part of the broader category of offshore supply ships that also includes crane vessels (CV), well stimulation vessels (WSVs), anchor handling tug supply vessels (AHTSVs), and offshore construction vessels (OCVs). Larger PSVs boast state-of-the-art equipment, including remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs) and can accommodate a larger crew, exceeding 100 people.
