Offset Marking Tool/Edge Finder (Magnetic)

thingiverse

I was browsing Thingiverse yesterday when I came across something in metric that caught my attention and reminded me of a project I had worked on several months ago, but never submitted. It closely resembles a product produced by a well-known company that caters to woodworkers, which prompted a cabinet maker friend to ask if I could model and print it. Since I didn't have the actual tool, I had to make an educated guess at the missing dimensions, but I'm confident in my approximation. To assemble the standoffs/feet, I used two 1/2" x 1/8" neodymium magnets and some super glue. The design features a storage hole for a pencil when not in use and another hole to insert a pencil for center marking through the handle's center. This model was created in inches, so if it appears tiny, you might need to multiply the scale by 25.4. One side is used for marking 1/16" offsets, while the other is designed for 1/8" offsets. To differentiate between the two pencil grooves, I made some small marks with a sharpie. Feel free to let me know what you think and share your prints! If you prefer a metric version, HowardB has created one available here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3600515
