If you're struggling with a Gene Caffe coffee roaster that won't stay covered up, there's some hope for you. I faced a similar issue after taking apart my own Gene Caffe for repairs and struggled to get the cover back in place. Despite its hinge pins still being intact, my reassembled roaster never fit right again. I suspect this was due to the loss of original factory alignment during the repair process. Given how short those pins are, it doesn't take much for them to stop fitting properly. To fix this problem, I designed and printed some hinge blocks that return the Gene's cover to its proper working state. These blocks are secured using contact cement. Ideally, I would have liked to restore the original pin locations but there simply isn't enough space between the pins and their corresponding sockets. The new geometry of these blocks shifts the pin sockets mostly upwards and a bit towards the rear, which means the cover doesn't quite fit as well as it used to. However, this design still keeps everything working fine. Note: These blocks work by pulling in the pin sockets towards the center, focusing on tightening their hold on the pins – that's their primary function.
