Offering Table of Defdji
myminifactory
The round offering table is a rare find, as most tables are rectangular in shape. Some tables resemble the hieroglyph 'hetep', a reed mat with a loaf of bread on it, symbolizing an Egyptian offering. This specific table from Defdji's collection stands out for its exceptional level of detail. As an official with prominent titles such as "Acquaintance of the King," "Highly Revered by the Great God," "Unique Friend," and "Great One of Upper Egypt Ten," Defdji held a position of great respect. Made from white alabaster, this 13 cm thick table boasts intricate designs. The hetep sign is prominently displayed in raised relief across the middle section. Above it are two dishes, while below it sits two small vases and a jug within a bowl. Each compartment on the surface lists either a dish, drink, or purifying agent by name, totaling over ninety products. Seven shallow cavities sit atop the panel, designed to hold special consecrated oils for anointing the cult statue of Defdji in death. The names are listed from right to left: festive ointment, laudation oil, balm, nekhenem oil, Tuawet oil, top quality cedar oil, and top quality Libyan oil. Next to each cup is a clear statement indicating its intended recipient - "for Defdji".
