We successfully experimented with both the Intel NUC i3 unit and the Odroid-U3, deciding to power our Internet-enabled hydroponics system, 3Dponics. The two devices are innovative technologies, but we chose to go with the Odroid-U3 for several compelling reasons. 1. Compared to the Intel NUC i3, which costs a substantial $300+, the Odroid-U3 is significantly cheaper at just $65+. You can get your hands on an ODROID for less than half the price. 2. Unlike other systems, operating the Odroid-U3 doesn't come with a hefty cost: you can choose to run it with a free operating system such as Linux or Android, giving you total freedom. 3. Components like microSD cards and data sensors are easy on the wallet, ensuring your hydroponics project is cost-effective without compromising quality. 4. Thanks to 3D printing, creating your own case for the Odroid-U3 is possible. Our project is nearly complete: our next challenge will be crafting a user-friendly Android and iOS app that will connect with the system through Wi-Fi, ensuring you receive real-time feedback from the system's data sensors.
