Odd shaped box with hidden hinges
thingiverse
This is a box with concealed hinges. The box's shape is crafted using octaves. It's a hyperellipse - essentially a rectangular prism with rounded edges - inverted on a sphere (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inversion_in_a_sphere) to make it less dull. The hinges are based on the hidden_hinge design found on Thingiverse # 2401035. This setup uses sections of 1.75 mm filament for hinge pins. Since both filament diameter and printer performance vary, making a test strip called "hinge_hole_size_test.stl" first would be a good idea to see what size hole works best with your printer and filament. You can easily enlarge the holes by using the side of a small drill bit (such as 1/16" or 1mm) to improve the fit of the filament hinge pins. To create, print the following (where xxx is the hole size determined with hinge_hole_size_test.stl): quan 1: blob34_1_bottom_xxx.stl quan 1: blob34_1_top_xxx.stl quan 2: blob34_1_arm_combo_xxx.stl
