Oculus Rift S – Pliable Headphone Mount – Koss PortaPro

thingiverse

This flexible headphone mount is designed specifically for the Koss PortaPro headset drivers, which were initially assumed to be used with the original Rift headset. The convenience and sound quality they provided made them a popular choice. Other 3D printable designs exist to mount Koss PortaPros on the Rift S, but this design aims to provide a single-piece flexible design with cable routing features. A few key notes about the design and fitting process are worth noting. When mounting, start by routing the cable underneath the mount, then secure the bottom section, and finally snap over the top mounting piece. To prevent scratching the headset's plastic halo, use tape for test-fitting purposes. PLA is a harder material than the halo plastic. Set screws were added to hold the drivers in place, but their use is entirely optional. However, they can be useful for some users due to the inherent variability of 3D printing. These set screws accommodate M1.6 screws and may help prevent driver wear and tear over time. The design includes a brim that should be removed before mounting. To ensure smooth operation, add some slack to the headset cable so the headset can slide in and out as needed. For added flexibility, heat up the part with a hair dryer and mold it to fit your specific needs. After the Rift S launch, I knew I wanted to create a design that accommodated these headsets, and I welcome any feedback on this design!
