Oculus Rift S and Quest Spring Loaded Headphone Holder

Like other owners of the new Oculus Rift S and Oculus Quest, I have wanted a better way to use headphones without having to put them on over the VR headset. This is my take on headphone holders. Like others, I have used the excellent Koss Porta Pros, as well as the Koss KSC75 headphones. Both fit in these holders and sound great. The parts that hold the headphone drivers can be modified to work with other brands.

These headphone holders use a readily-available part normally used for cabinets called a roller catch to provide tension that allows the arms to be be flipped up out of the way, or flipped down onto your ear. These are the ones I used: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072WKZYZX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Besides the roller catches, you'll need the following:

3mm x 6mm screws - 4

3mm x 25mm screws - 2

3mm hex nuts - 6

1mm x 2mm tie wraps

1.5mm x 3.5mm tie wraps

Velcro tie wraps (not necessary but helpful)

There are two clips that hold the headphone driver. Place the clip pieces on either side of the tab on the driver and insert them into the hole in the arm piece. A small bundle tie can be used to secure the pieces.

For the Rift S, use tie wraps to attach the baseplate to the halo. For the Quest, use tie wraps to attach the baseplate to the Quest clips. The clips just slide onto the Quest straps.

One of the STL files has all the parts needed to make one pair of holders, including the Quest clips. The parts in that STL are all in the correct orientation to print without supports. Even if you print from the individual part files, please reference the all parts file to see how to orient the parts.

Update 5/30/2019: I've added new versions (v3) of the arms and the thumbwheels. The arms are now shorter and have more clearance at the top so they don't interfere with the roller so much, and the thumbwheel is larger and filleted so it's easier to really tighten in down.

<oembed url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEBRh5_fUvc"></oembed>

Category: Other
