Octosuppli

Octosuppli

thingiverse

The idea for this project came to me while trying to make something for Thingiverse's "Student Design Challenge". I had been playing with the helix tool on Onshape when I suddenly had an epiphany. An octopus holding your pencils, pens, thumbtacks, and other random treasures would look pretty neat. I searched for one on Thingiverse and Google to see if it had been done. I didn't find one. So I decided to create it. Presenting 'Octosuppli' V1, a desk organizer that looks like a cartoon octopus. It can hold your pencil, pen, eraser, Post-it notes, tape, and USB drive. It is also hollow which allows you to put random supplies and small treasures inside it. I created some trays so you can separate your thumbtacks from your paperclips. The hardest thing about designing this was getting the tentacles to be how I wanted them. If I ever redo this project and make an 'Octosuppli' V2, these are the things I'd put on my 'To Do' list: make some lids that look like hats, find an object for each arm to hold, and make some different trays so it is even more customizable. I absolutely love 3D design and 3D printing because it makes it possible to print quick prototypes so I can improve my designs.
