Octoson - Octoprint on the Intel Edison - case
youmagine
This is a custom enclosure designed specifically for the Intel Edison mini breakout board, featuring an optional 12V male jack soldered onto its bottom. The creation of this case began with the DXF file provided by Intel for the board, which was then used to extrude blocks representing various ports. In addition to accurate openings for these ports, the case features cutouts on the bottom for magnets that enable it to securely adhere to any chosen surface. Currently, it serves as a housing for Octoson (https://vrubiolo.github.io/octoson/), an ambitious project aiming to run Octoprint on an Intel Edison. This custom case was successfully printed using a Printrbot Play after thorough calibration for optimal tolerances. The magnets are intended to hold securely through a press-fit adjustment, and I used pliers to carefully place them in position. The entire design process utilized FreeCAD, an innovative open-source 3D parametric CAD modeler (www.freecadweb.org). As part of this project, the source file for the model is also included. This project is ongoing. The next steps involve refining tolerances and dimensions for the vertical tubes to ensure a precise press-fit or exploring alternative designs. Additionally, efforts will be made to reduce the overall bulkiness of the case. Finally, further photographs featuring the actual board in use are necessary.
