The beast was a behemoth of the deep, an octopus-like creature that loomed over its victims with an unblinking gaze. Its eight arms rippled and flexed like living whips, each one tipped with suckers that could snatch a man from his bed in the dead of night. The monster's body was a mass of writhing, pulsating flesh, its very presence seeming to draw the light out of the air around it. It moved with an unnatural silence, its eyes fixed on some unseen target as it slid through the darkness like a ghostly apparition.
