Octo Robot - Test - Original by Thanos Bompotas
sketchfab
This is a quick mock up, designed to test the feasibility of a workflow within Substance Painter. As someone new to the program, I was curious to explore whether it's possible to bypass high-poly sculpts, which Blender struggles with on my setup, by creating lower poly models and adding details inside Substance using layers and alpha brushes. This mockup is based on the stunning model "Octo-Robot" by Thanos Bompotas, available at https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/octo-robot-69f07c107fe24177a884054d3375c362. I highly recommend checking out his work - he's a huge inspiration! The original concept was created by Carlos Jaugeon, whose amazing art can be found at https://www.artstation.com/jaugeon. This experiment involves pushing the limits of Substance Painter to see how far it can go. Even in an extreme case scenario, I omitted modelling the metal patches on the helmet and relied solely on texturing to achieve a decent result. While not recommended, the outcome is surprisingly good, considering the constraints.
