Octangula, Hollow

Octangula, Hollow

This design forms part of the Platonic Solids. This version is an empty model. It serves as a testing ground for evaluating 3D printer quality (and slicer software efficiency). It prints rapidly. Furthermore, it has been used effectively as giveaway models at exhibitions. (The green picture displays the differences in print quality from 2012. The most recent model on the right comes from Shapeways.com, while the earliest design from a RepRap appears on the left.) Instructions: To print this model successfully, ensure that your slicer and printer settings enable slow enough layer times, allowing each layer to cool before the next one is added. Otherwise, the printed result may collapse into a misshapen blob. Additionally, be aware that some slicers have difficulty generating code for the bottom layer due to its sharp design. This can cause the printer to start printing in mid-air at the second layer. Modify your slicer settings or merge them with (a tiny) raft print file to achieve a successful outcome. By the way, this 3D shape originated as an exercise in programming (self-taught). I have compiled a collection of prints from various 3D printers, including Shapeways. I also use it frequently as giveaways at exhibitions due to its rapid printing capabilities, taking only a few minutes.
