Instead of using a magnet, this innovative design is based on Roller-type bearing with diameters of 8mm internally and 22mm externally, standing at 7mm in height. This option is not only cheaper but also easier to find in stores that sell sport equipment. To secure the assembly, one screw with a diameter of 3.3mm and a length of 12-13mm can be added, although it's not necessary. A short video clip demonstrates how to assemble this device. Starting from the idea that learning an alphabet is easier when students can create and touch characters by themselves, I sought a way for visually impaired people to compose Braille characters using a tactile tool. Since all Braille characters can be created with 2 series of 8 different combinations, I designed two octagon parts with all dot combination faces linked by standard roller-type bearing to allow relative rotation between both parts. After testing various configurations of dot arrangements, I found that the most practical configuration is when a half turn gives the opposite result. For example, dot 1-3 becomes dot 2 when turning 180 degrees the part. This point can be confirmed or updated if a better proposal arises; however, I suggest holding the part with the screw on your left-hand side before starting to help memorize the relative location. This concept could be used by visually impaired people and teachers, as well as anyone interested in learning Braille. I'm currently experimenting with it during my daily commute or while waiting in line, searching for the fastest way to go through the alphabet without seeing it but only touching ... and so far, I've come to understand all those unusual dots on my elevator command panel. Another version of this device is being designed to create words and sentences with multiple characters in standard size. If you're interested in learning more, please let me know ... Let's print and enjoy! Parameters for the printed sample shown: 0.4mm layer height, without support, 60% honeycomb filled, concentric top and bottom layers.
