Oceanreef Aria Filter Adapter
thingiverse
This adapter is designed to fit two commonly found Honeywell or North brand filters to an Oceanreef Aria mask, providing a solution that may aid in protecting the wearer against contracting COVID-19 or inhaling airborne particles. IMPORTANT: This is not a certified or guaranteed solution; use at your own risk. I offer no guarantee of effectiveness but am willing to provide support and all relevant information. YOU WILL NEED: 1 Oceanreef Aria Mask 2 P100 or similar Honeywell/North brand filters 2 1-inch Umbrella valves (These are difficult to source) 2 1-inch Backup Ring Gaskets (https://www.mcmaster.com/5288t257) This adapter is not designed for printing on FDM, use DLP or SLA printers. The print is slightly undersize to the mask. To fit it properly, soak the adapter in hot water for 10 seconds and press fit it onto the mask. Let it cool in place for a few minutes and it will hold its shape. If you leave it off the mask for several days, it may need to be reheated to fit. Fit the umbrella valves to the inside of the adapter and put the backup gaskets over the threads - cup side up. Attach the adapter to the mask and screw on the filters. Be careful not to overtighten, just tighten until there is even pressure on the gasket. This adapter has been designed as part of a collaborative effort with Prakash Labs and their Pneumask project: https://www.pneumask.org/. I recommend printing the adapter with the threads facing towards the build plate, ensuring each thread is supported individually. The mask, adapter, valves, and backup gaskets can all be immersed in boiling water for cleaning. However, I do not guarantee effectiveness. As of now, I must recommend using new filters after every use to limit exposure to contaminants on the filters that cannot be cleaned with the other parts. This solution is not intended to replace certified PPE. COVID-19 can be contracted through the eyes, nose, and mouth - this option should only be used if no PPE is available. Stay safe. EDIT: Added V5.5 with internal channels to isolate breathing paths - eliminating any chances of CO2 buildup inherent in snorkel masks.
