Obsidian Izembek Point, Thoroughly Reconstructed. XCB-003-242\nXCB-003, or IZM-003, was thoroughly examined by A.P. McCartney in 1971. This site serves as the type-site for the Izembek Phase. A small village existed at this location with a unique whalebone house and numerous artifacts similar to those found in the Bristol Bay region. It dates back approximately 1200-1350 CE.\nThe Alaska Peninsula artifacts were researched under grants NSF 9630072, NSF 9814086, NSF 9996372, NSF 9996415, NSF 1139266, NSF 1321411. H. Maschner led this research as Principal Investigator. These artifacts were scanned using either a Faro Edge Arm or a Minolta Vivid 9i. They were processed in Geomagic or Polyworks, utilizing 2-8 photos for texture in Geomagic Wrap. The original digitizing work was done at the IVL at Id. St. Univ., while subsequent processing and publication took place at Global Digital Heritage.\nMcCartney's research is documented in "Prehistoric Cultural Integration along the Alaska Peninsula." This paper was published in APUA 16(1):59-84 in 1974. Maschner's findings are also available online, accessible through doi: 10.1353/arc.2011.0007 Arctic Anthro. January 1, 2004 vol. 41 no. 2 98-111.
