Oboe reed case
myminifactory
This is a 3-piece reed case designed to hold oboe reeds. The base holds the reeds, and two rotating shells allow you to expose them to air for drying or close them for protection in your bag. To build it, you'll need: A #10 screw with nut, or an M5 screw with a nut (at least 20mm long). 32 small neodymium magnets like these from Amazon. They're 6mm in diameter and 2mm thick, but measure 5.95x1.75mm when you get them. 1/16th inch o-ring stock available at McMaster-Carr for $0.21 per foot. The magnets are placed between the outer and inner shells, creating a satisfying click mechanism when opening or closing the air slots. They stay in place with the screw but it's recommended to glue them in with super glue to keep them secure. Make sure not to install them incorrectly or you'll need to reprint one of the shells. Also, glue the nut on the end of the screw to prevent it from coming loose when twisting. Print away!
