Oblique Nib Holder for Calligraphy
thingiverse
This is a custom-made oblique nib holder designed specifically for use with Copperplate or other slanted styles, making it easier to write with a holder that's angled just right. The example shown here was printed in PLA with a relatively low infill and .4mm layer height, but as long as the nib-holding geometry turns out well, the specifics of the print settings shouldn't matter much. The nib face on this holder is flat, and it should be printed upright without any supports to ensure proper alignment. It's designed to fit a standard G nib, which I personally use from Zebra - they're inexpensive and flex nicely for optimal writing performance. Before using the holder with your fountain pen, take some time to lightly scrub the nib face with a paper towel and toothpaste to remove the protective oil and improve ink adhesion. You can also experiment with different standard fountain pen inks to see what works best for you. If needed, an exacto knife can be used to clean out the nib-holding slot over time - just be sure to handle it carefully to avoid damaging the holder. And if a nib is left in place for too long, the material will start to flex and lose tension, resulting in a loose nib that's no longer writing smoothly. To prevent this from happening, I recommend using a small dab of superglue for added security.
