I've tweaked a few bits of the "complex" Obiwan lightsaber design because they didn't print out great for me. Big thanks to Ultimaker/Jacky/Valcros for the original awesome files!!! Find all the details on Instructions. Instructions: I've tweaked a few bits of the "complex" Obiwan lightsaber design because they didn't print out great for me. You can find the original files and license in the “Original Obiwan Lightsaber Complex” folder. Big thanks to Ultimaker for the awesome files!!! I printed everything at "High" on a Flashforge clone of the original Replicator Dual in ABS, except the D-Ring jig. I used a raft, but no supports as the design was meant to print well without them. I batched several components together and it took around 24 hours for everything, plus a bit more for my modified parts. I made two changes: • Lightbulbs Flat - I printed the “lightbulbs” in translucent clear ABS and they drooped when I printed them vertically (but looked fine when I printed them gray). So I removed the supports and oriented them flat on their back. Ultimaker probably had issues with the flat position that's why they added the fancy support, but it worked better for me. You might want to try both. • Pin with Supports in Three Lengths – I couldn't get the pin to print at all and it was a little too short. I added some supports and now it prints fine this way (on a raft), just trim off the supports when done. Worked like a charm! I'm using the 22mm pin, although it might be a bit too long. (Original was 20mm). You can simply stretch the pin before printing to get it the right size. Most everything fit perfectly after cleaning the parts, except that I had to trim the buttons inside so that the grenade and pommel parts fit correctly. I also had trouble getting the lever/switch to attach to the pin, so I trimmed it by hand a bit. It doesn't seem like it "works" as a lever anymore so I intend to glue it on. Ultimaker said that the original intent of the DRING Jig part is to bend a heated piece of filament into a D-Ring shape. That seems reasonable but I'd rather use an actual metal D-Ring if I can get one, so I didn't try making one. Props to Ultimaker/Jacky/Valcrow for the original plans: https://www.youmagine.com/designs/star-wars-lightsaber-complex-version Make sure you check out their page there, they have links to blogs and stuff. Seems kinda weird to put an Ultimaker project on Thingiverse but it is CC licensed. I wanted to share the modified parts, though, because it's frustrating when you can't find the helpful modifications along with the rest of the project files. So here you go – a social experiment!
