Obadiah and Saint Thomas from the Door of Forgiveness
myminifactory
These two statues of Obadiah and Saint-Thomas are prominently displayed on the Door of Forgiveness, a sacred entrance located on the façade of the majestic Santiago de Compostela Cathedral in Spain. Visitors who get to pass through this revered door can consider themselves privileged, as not everyone is fortunate enough to experience it. The reason for its limited accessibility? It only opens once every four years on December 31st, coinciding with the eve of Jubilee years when the Feast of St. James (July 25th) falls on a Sunday; during these special Holy Years, the door remains open for twelve consecutive months. Situated at the rear of the Cathedral, it's not uncommon to find long queues of pilgrims and travelers from all over Spain, Europe, and the world eagerly waiting to cross its threshold and pay homage to the Apostle St. James. However, visitors should note that the original door is now housed within the cathedral itself; the Door of Forgiveness, situated closest to the famous steps in front of the temple, takes precedence due to its picturesque location and unique figures along its sides: 24 Lords of Revelation, an apostle, and two devoted disciples known as the Gate of the 27 Elders.
