Oak Leaf and Acorn Door Stop
thingiverse
Rather than settling for an ordinary door stop, I decided to bring a touch of nature indoors with this unique oak leaf shaped design. It's positioned at such an angle that it should easily slide under most doors, keeping them open with minimal effort. When not in use, the door stop can be hung up on the door handle, accompanied by a matching acorn accessory. The oak leaf is actually printed upside down, which adds to its unique charm. By printing the leaf at a low resolution, the angle creates a stepped surface that provides texture and grip for the floor when flipped over. **Print Settings** **Printer Brand:** MakerBot **Printer Model:** MakerBot Replicator 2 **Rafts:** No **Supports:** No **Infill:** 10% **Notes:** I've included the base files in .stl format, as well as files already sliced in makerware to .x3g. The resolution used for each part is: Leaf - 0.3mm, Acorn Top and Bottom - 0.2mm, and Acorn Peg - 0.2mm. If you choose to use a different slicing software, you may need to adjust the scale of the base files. I've already done so: Leaf - 65%, Acorn Peg - 96%, Acorn Top and Bottom - 100%. I printed my door stop using Faberdashery's excellent PLA - Greenery Green, Woodland Brown, and Bling Bling Gold. The print times and filament usage are as follows: Leaf - 1 hour 13 minutes, 28.42 grams; Acorn Bottom - 12 minutes, 1.76 grams; Acorn Top - 13 minutes, 2.53 grams; Acorn Peg - 5 minutes, 0.4 grams. **Assembly** To assemble the door stop, you can simply use glue to attach the acorn top and bottom together. However, I've also included an acorn peg that serves as a dowel, allowing you to slot the two parts together without glue. If the peg is too tight or loose, you can adjust its scale for a perfect fit. To complete your door stop, all you need is some string or ribbon to tie the leaf and acorn together. I used natural jute string for a rustic look that complements the design perfectly.
