Nymph

Human: Large marble sculpture by Henri-Louis Cordier portrays a nymph in detailed form, with arms unfortunately missing. The Nymphs were minor nature deities that populated the earth as a whole. Although they ranked below the gods, they still received invitations to attend gatherings of the gods on Olympus. Nymphs oversaw various natural occurrences - from springs to clouds, trees, caverns, meadows and beaches. They were accountable for the care of plants and animals in their domain and thus shared close ties with the Olympian nature gods such as Hermes, Dionysus, Artemis, Poseidon and Demeter. The male counterparts of Nymphs were Satyrs, Panes, Potamoi and Tritons. This item is part of "Scan The World".
