Nylon presser foot for Brothers sewing machine v1.1
thingiverse
I purchased a sewing machine that didn't come with a nylon presser foot so I designed one using their zigzag foot model as a reference. Since the last version had issues, I added extra reinforcement this time around to strengthen it. Sewing with leather was more difficult than expected due to excessive resistance from the metal foot of my existing presser. For sewing on thick materials like leather, I would recommend Taulman 618 nylon filament with low friction characteristics, such as #17 (the #16 model also works, but the #17 performs better). The machine I am using is a Brothers CE5500PRW, although other models should work just as well. Printed out this custom presser foot and had no problems installing it into my sewing machine. To ensure proper function and easy removal of supports, follow these steps: 1. Print the custom foot on both sides and orient it so that the nail head recess is facing up to prevent excessive pressure from interfering with its release. 2. Widen the hole at the end of the custom presser with a small file before attempting installation; using a dremel or hacksaw is ideal, however. To fit the nail, start by removing it, followed by deburring and filing to smooth out any sharp edges, thereby reducing resistance when threading it through. The fit was relatively snug but not unmanageable, allowing for an interference connection that effectively holds in place and won't come loose under stress or tension during use.
