If you're seeking an effortless way to hoist and lower your mainsail, consider adding sail sliders or slugs to your sailing equipment. These small yet mighty components enable the sail to move smoothly along the track and stack securely on the boom in the mast slot. Not only does this prevent the sail from catching wind and exiting the bottom of the mast slot, but it also reduces wear and tear on the sail. This collection features external sail sliders, internal sail sliders, and slugs to assist you in completing the job. Sliders are small barrels made of nylon that are attached ahead of the boltrope and then inserted into a slot on the mast instead of the rope. Sliders are similar but have a T-shaped design for easy installation in a mast slot. External sliders attach to a track on the outside of the mast. Note that if you need to replace parts but can't find a matching replacement, you will need to replace all components since your sail won't function properly if the hardware has a different distance between it and the sail. When selecting slugs and slides, size is the primary factor to consider, ensuring they fit the mainsail slot on your boat. After sizing, choose styles that optimize sail performance. For example, if your sail features full battens, select a style that distributes batten pressure to prevent jamming. When printing 3D models with nylon, keep in mind the following: TiTi Hard (TPU D70), Total PA GF30, NYLON 12, NYLON Carbon, and NYLON Carbon 2. Keep nylon dry to prevent damage. For optimal results, set the oven temperature at about 60 °C for 5-6 hours, or until fully dry. The extrusion temperature of nylon should be above 240-260 °C. Use glue on metal or glass surfaces when working with nylon. Heat your work surface to around 100+ °C. Avoid fast cooling as it causes warping. Make sure layer cooling fans are turned off and avoid drafts during printing. Refer to the photos for details. Each item has been designed with precision in mind, featuring real-world measurements.
