NYC Subway Train
cults3d
I needed a New York City subway train to go along with my son's collection of wooden trains, but $30 seemed like too steep a price tag. So, I decided to design and build my own NYC-style train that would work seamlessly with the other wood and magnet-based trains he already had. To make this possible, I opted for a 5mm magnet ball as the connecting mechanism. This allows the train to attach to any other compatible vehicle in whatever orientation is needed. The subway car and base are two separate components, which gives me - or anyone else who might pick up where I left off - the freedom to design new tops in the future if we want to. Since the magnets haven't arrived yet, you'll see some makeshift 8mm x 1mm magnets being used temporarily. These will get swapped out once the proper ones arrive, at which point I'll post an updated photo for everyone to see. The first train was printed using Stereolithography (SLA), while the others were done in PLA.
