The original Nvidia card featured a reference design, but it was enhanced with a heatsink addition that boosted pixel power by 15-20%. This made the card significantly faster than contemporary 3dfx cards. Despite my fondness for 3dfx, I wonder why Nvidia opted for a heatsinkless reference design. It reminds me of an era when GPU performance was rapidly advancing, thanks to custom heatsinks like the solid copper one I personally machined and epoxied onto the chip.
