Nut for 3 string Cigar Box Guitar

Nut for 3 string Cigar Box Guitar

I'm really into crafting cigar box guitars...but never could create a nut that made me truly happy. So, I thought why not give 3D printing one a try? It seems to work way better than anything I've managed to carve out of hardwood, bone or plastic by hand! Maybe I should try printing up a more effective bridge next... The string grooves are designed to fit A/D/G strings from a standard set of six-string guitar strings and spaced to work with a picture hanger bracket I use as a tailpiece. The openscad source is included so it should be relatively easy to adjust the size and positioning of the string grooves to fit other setups. I left the nut a bit taller than ideal which gives higher action on the strings than I prefer. However, it's much easier to sand it down a bit to get the action just right than to make it taller after printing! Print Settings: Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: Folgertech 2020 Prusa i3 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.20mm Infill: 40% Notes: Quick and simple print. I've done it in PLA and PETG both with 40% infill and 4 perimeters for a very stiff hard part.
