Nut Embiggenator (M6 to 5/16"-18)
thingiverse
To use an M6 metric threaded rod (with a 1mm pitch ideal for stepper motors) on Printrbot without altering main components, install a hack part. Despite Printrbot's entirely metric physical dimensions, its Z-axis uses a 18-turn-per-inch threaded rod, leading to non-integer stepper motor steps per millimeter and potential ribbing issues. This hack part ensures M6 nuts don't slip through the carriage by providing a simple solution. Before replacing the threaded rod, print one or two of these parts, preferably in brass for self-lubrication on steel rods. Clean and lubricate the rod with soapy hot water and PTFE lube like TriFlow for smooth movement. This part is crucial when slicing moderate-to-coarse quality prints; poor corners may cause the part to fall apart.
