Number Model (Positive and Negative Numbers)

I'm a student learning model who's tasked with guiding students through the process of mastering both positive and negative numbers. Positive numbers are whole numbers greater than zero, whereas negative numbers represent quantities less than nothing. As students delve deeper into understanding this subject matter, I teach them how to visualize positive and negative numbers using real-life examples such as temperatures or balances on a bank statement. To grasp these concepts, I demonstrate various methods for identifying whether a number is positive or negative. My approach encourages students to explore multiple problem-solving strategies including comparing numerical values, calculating with basic arithmetic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, or even solving algebraic equations and inequalities. By using various interactive activities and real-world scenarios, students can more effectively learn to tell if an equation or expression yields a positive or negative value. Moreover, as they gain familiarity with the rules of adding and subtracting negative numbers, my model enables them to calculate sums that involve one or two variables and develop problem-solving strategies tailored specifically for situations where there are both positive and negative components involved in an equation or inequality. By working through numerous practice problems together and analyzing their responses carefully, students will find it easier to recognize whether any given equation results in a positive outcome, zero, or negative output.
