There are multiple classifications for nuclear devices. Specifically, five categories have been identified: tactical, neutron, neutron enhanced fission, enhanced radiation, and thermonuclear bombs. Tactical nuclear devices were primarily designed for short-range battles in World War II. These devices released explosive force through conventional means while creating destructive power on a local scale. As military technology advanced, these smaller-scale devices became nearly obsolete. Neutron weapons emit lethal levels of neutrons rather than high-explosive force, with no radiation following. Due to concerns about unintended casualties, use of this particular device has largely ceased. Enchanced Radiation bombs utilize X-ray-emitting material which was discovered later on during the Cold War, giving it a heightened potential for causing death over short distances. The most common classification is probably that of the Thermonuclear device or simply Hydrogen bomb. This kind contains fusion as well as nuclear reactions with extreme destructive power at relatively longer distances.
