The Nubian headdress is a distinctive hairstyle adopted by ancient Egyptians to emulate the thick locks of the Nubian people, who were at various times part of the Egyptian kingdom's expansion. This wig closely resembles today's Afro style but typically features a stacked series of tightly coiled braids. The style was particularly popular during Egypt's Eighteenth Dynasty, with Pharaoh Akhenaten's reign being its most notable period. Queen Kiya is often associated with this headdress, as are Nefertiti and the pharaoh's mother Tiye.
