Nozzle Pencil Topper
prusaprinters

Were pencil toppers a feature in your formative years? They were for me. I distinctly remember a Mr. Happy pencil-topper being the pride of my pencil case for what felt like many years (for those unfamiliar with Mr. Men and Little Miss were series of books written by Roger Hargreaves published in the '70s and '80s featuring simple, brightly colored characters with all manner of powers and quirks).

When the pens and pencils contest was announced, the memory of that pencil topper stirred in the back of my mind and I thought that the nozzle design I had started with for the zip-tag could be put to good use again in order to create a pencil topper for the '20s.

<oembed url="https://youtu.be/g1-d9Rh7kig"></oembed>

Again it is a parametric OpenSCAD design so you should be able to adjust it for most regular sizes of pencil if required. The provided gcode seems to fit the 7.5mm pencils I use at home fairly tightly. The hole in the topper nozzle is open all the way through so as to reduce the potential as a choking hazard, but having said that the hole is pretty small so I'd still
recommend prudence if giving one to a smaller child.

The design prints without support if printed tip-down. For me it worked pretty much first shot so I haven't tweaked the design to get the print time down or reduce the number of polygons at all, so it does take a while to print.

Just two design parameters to tweak here:

pd - the pencil diameter

sd - the shaft diameter
