NO MORE DUNK, DUNK, DUNK AS YOUR SPOOL TURNS! Super smooth running filament holder with no resistance. NOW FREE!! I've been using this for the last few weeks to test it and it is flawless, works really really well. I tried several filament holder prints but never found one that I really liked. Some were pretty cool but weren’t the nicest to print, so this addresses that issue. EVERYTHING prints without supports, and the only additional materials you need are a couple of the common 608 (skateboard) bearings, and maybe a drop of superglue! Everything has been made to print well. No awkward shapes or overhangs, zero supports, interlocking joints, no special requirements, super simple (if a little heavy on print time!). I will be putting together a build guide, but it's pretty simple and the photos should show how it goes together. The final version actually has 10mm shorter 'arms', so it sits perfectly within the Ender enclosure if you use one (I do). The arms interlock with the base piece and shouldn't need gluing, mine have been fine. The retaining nuts are tapered so that they support the filament spool perfectly, and the filament runs entirely on the bearings. I used a drop of superglue to keep the bearings in place. They are a firm press-fit, but if you glue (or bearing/thread lock) them in then you negate the possibility of pulling the bearings out when you unscrew the end bolts when you change filament. Threads are perfectly sized, but as with all things 3D printed you may just need to work the parts together a couple of times to free them up. I tend to trim off any obvious deformations or loose filament and then work them together bit by bit. A single pass should see them fitting perfectly. I've done 2 STL files that make up the complete assembly (SET 1 & 2), but there are also STL files for each component. The base is made just to sit on top of the Ender frame (20mm square), so will work on many 3D printers that use a similar construction. There is an included base-plate with 3mm holes in, just in case you want to secure it in place, I have found no need to, and it means you can just lift the whole assembly out when you need to change filament. Super simple! The filament guide position is totally adjustable, just make sure you put the tapered side of the hole UPWARDS. I don't tighten it right down as it will move itself slightly to suit the spool. This filament roller/holder honestly works like a dream, and I believe that it's the best one on any of the 3D printing sites currently. Thanks, really appreciate you looking.
