Update June 1, 2020: Version 3 of this project has been added, featuring a small lever attached that prevents the roll from opening and falling on the ground. Tolerances have also been increased to make printing easier. This project was created for the #NoTouchChallenge to flatten the Covid-19 curve. A cashier at a grocery store suggested using a cardboard roll from toilet paper to push a trolley, instead of using a paper towel. I thought it was a good idea, but it didn't meet my aesthetic requirements. I found this project on Thingiverse and decided to create something similar: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4248048 Features: * This design should print well even with badly calibrated printers due to 0.5mm clearances. Proper part cooling is necessary. * No extra parts or assembly are required. * Hinges are "print in place," requiring a little force to open the tube after it was printed. * Ribs inside minimize surface contact with trolley handles, reducing the chance of picking up viruses and bacteria. Disinfecting after use is still recommended. * Round edges prevent self-inflicted injuries. * Two levers make it easy to open and hold the tube with two fingers. Dimensions: * Inner diameter including ribs is 38mm, large enough for most trolley types. * Length is 100mm. * Shell thickness is 2mm. I've only tested this design with PETG, but it should work with PLA as well. A Fusion360 file is included for easy editing or remixing. Edit: With the newest version, three fingers are needed to open it, not two. Maybe I'll fix that in a future version...
