notched box with single divider
thingiverse
I quickly added an extra option to this amazingly designed box, incorporating a single divide feature that wasn't originally present. I created two variations - one with a centered divide and another with a roughly quarter-to-three-quarter split. No supports are required for this design, and it can be scaled in various ways, just like the original designs. I've successfully printed this box using ABS and PLA materials, as well as experimenting with woodfill. So far, the ABS prints have proven to withstand daily wear and tear better than the others. As an electrician, I use these boxes for storing screws, batteries, and spare small parts of all kinds. I toss them into a bag where they get crushed and tossed around, but the lids always remain securely in place. The only instance where the lid didn't hold up was when I scaled it along the y-axis to 150% to create a very long rectangular box for storing drill bits. While the lid still stays on, throwing it into my bag causes the lid to fly off and sends my drill bits rolling. I plan to upload an updated version of this design that's longer but not stretched, ensuring the notched area remains at its proper length. My favorite scale for this design is 130% on the x-axis and 90% on the z-axis, which creates super-tough lids and a shorter box that makes it easier to grab small parts. I've even experimented with scaling these boxes down to as low as 50%, using an even scale of 85% on the z-axis. However, prints below 50% didn't work out too well, so I might upload a tiny version of this design in the future.
